Dr. Azlan Darus, Division Head (Prevention, Medical and Rehabilitation Division) from SOCSO, in his opening remarks, explained that “Vision Zero” is a transformational approach to prevention that integrates the three dimensions of safety, health and well-being at all levels of work. Accidents at work and occupational diseases are neither predetermined nor unavoidable. By introducing the “Vision Zero” strategy at workplaces, causes for accidents can be eliminated and work related accidents, harm and occupational diseases can be prevented. Seven Golden Rules have been developed to establish this strategy successfully at workplaces. “Vision Zero” strategy is flexible and can be adjusted to specific safety, health or well-being priorities for prevention in any given context.
One of the most remarkable and meaningful “takeaways” from the workshop was the knowledge sharing session with the experts in Occupational Safety and Health Management (OSHM) where participants and experts exchanged views and ideas on ways to improve various areas in safety and health. At the end of the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fadzli Shah Abd Aziz, Director of Social Security Centre of Excellence (SOSCOE) and also the Principal Researcher of this project, deliberated the outcome of the discussion and expressed his gratitude to the experts for sharing their expertise in various areas with regards to Vision Zero.
